Saint George School, grades 1 – 8, offers an educational learning experience to help children develop their academic and social skills in order to prepare them for their high school education and beyond. Our curriculum builds a strong, solid foundation for knowledge to grow each year and to promote life-long learners. Our welcoming, certified teachers utilize timeless, age-appropriate teaching and learning methodologies to enhance learning potential. Saint George School implements Common Core Standards of the Pennsylvania Department of Education and the Diocese of Erie. Students in grades seven and eight study a student selected foreign language utilizing Rosetta Stone in our modernized computer technology lab. We also offer the Simple Solutions Mathematics Series approach for additional learning and practice in Math, utilized in all grades, which provides successful long-term knowledge retention.
Every Friday, Saint George School students gather in our Church, with direct access from our school, for worship at student-led Liturgies. Community service projects are offered in all grade levels as well as religious experiences, services and devotional practices consistent with the Catholic faith. In addition to our structured academics, students have the opportunity to participate in activities that promote friendship, sharing and teach social skills. Saint George School students engage in various physical fitness activities at our on-site playground, multi-purpose activity area known as the “green space,” gymnasium and our well-equipped fitness room.
Saint George School students in the Diocese of Erie receive a well-rounded education in all subject areas. When designing the curriculum, the experienced faculty strives to ensure students are receiving academic excellence, faith development as well as leadership development during their learning experiences. The attendance policy for Saint George School is based on the Pennsylvania School Code. The Wellness Policy for our schools has been written to comply with federal and state requirements, and is designed to promote student wellness in the areas of nutrition, physical activity, and physical education.
The Music Curriculum Guidelines for Grades K-8 are aligned with both national and state standards.
The Technology Curriculum supports the use of technology skills across the curriculum and is aligned with national and state standards.
The comprehensive Health Curriculum can be effectively integrated into other curriculum areas, including religion, science, and physical education.
The Physical Education Curriculum is a wholistic approach, emphasizing overall wellness and closely tied to the Health Curriculum.
Social Studies -- this curriculum draws from the fields of history, geography, political science, behavioral science, and economics.
Language Arts objectives integrate reading, writing, listening, speaking, and thinking to create a balanced literacy curriculum. We have separate language arts curriculums for elementary school (Learn More>>) and middle school (Learn More>>).
The art curriculum, revised in 2004, is aligned with national and state standards.
The math curriculum is the product of extensive research, and represents a comprehensive approach to K-8 mathematics.
The guidelines for teaching religion in our schools are aligned with the Catechism and the religious education curriculum.
The revised science curriculum aligns with national and state standards and is based on the NSES model.
In 7th and 8th grade the students have a once-a-week introduction to the Spanish language and culture. Students learn the basics of the language including beginning vocabulary and simple rules of grammar and they practice simple conversations.The students are exposed to distinctive elements of the different Spanish cultures and we celebrate major Latin American holidays. Spanish class mainly is a time for the students to have a unique, fun, relaxed introduction to the wonderfully rich world of Latin America and Spain.
