Entering preschool is a big step for children and their parents! The staff and faculty of the Saint George School preschool program recognizes how important it is for children to feel good about themselves and how important early school experiences are. To encourage this positive attitude, Saint George School has a preschool philosophy of positive reinforcement.
Our experienced teachers praise and reward not only the finished product, but the effort as well. We see each child as an individual, with unique gifts to develop and share with others. We also believe that preschool is a time to have fun and a place to learn how to socialize with other children.
Saint George School has an early childhood development center that offers state of the art facilities for our 2, 3, and 4 year old preschool and kindergarten students. The center provides a bright, cheery environment to stimulate young minds. The center also provides an area dedicated to the needs of younger children, while still enabling students to take advantage of all the resources of the school. Readiness and motor skills are adapted as necessary tasks to meet the needs of the individual child. Children of the Saint George School preschool program receive extra assistance when needed. Their work represents what they can create themselves, not what the staff can do for them.

The Saint George School preschool program offers daily instruction in reading and math readiness, gross and fine motor development skills, music, art, and religion.
The children also have scheduled free play time to allow them to develop friendships and social skills. Readiness and motor skills are adapted for the individual, and teachers provide extra assistance in the areas that are challenging for the child.
Students enrolled in the Saint George School preschool program also participate
in a variety of fun and educational activities, including the use of the gym and playground.

The second Wednesday of each month is early dismissal day. The preschool sessions will run in the morning and/or afternoon. Morning session hours will be the same for both programs at 8:30-11am. The afternoon session requires the preschoolers to arrive one hour early at 11:30am and will dismiss at 1:30pm. The Alternative Care program will be open from 7am-5:30pm.
Please use the main entrance of Saint George School on Georgian Way. For safety reasons, ALL entrances will be locked after the children arrive in the morning. Please wait with your child by the preschool room until the teacher comes to greet them and leave when your child enters the classroom. This will help to prevent separation anxiety. If your child is sick, or will not be in attendance at school, please call the school Absentee line at 864-4821, press 1 and leave your information.
You and your preschool child are invited to the Saint George School Preschool Orientation, held in August, one week prior to the start of the school year. At this time the parents, children, and teachers spend time together and answer questions for the new school year. You will receive a letter in August regarding the date and time.
Sometimes the first day of school is harder on Mom and Dad than it is on the children. When the big day arrives, give your child a lot of encouragement, a warm hug and kiss, and leave as promptly as possible. It your child senses you feel good about school; he/she will feel good about it too! If children sense you are uncertain or reluctant to leave, they will be uncertain too. If there are tears, try not to worry. We are accustomed to this, and will provide comfort to your child and help him/her settle in. Please be assured we will contact you if we have a concern.
