The Physical Education program provides many opportunities for individual, small group, and team work. Whether students are developing physical skills or working on social skills, the Physical Education setting provides an atmosphere where the students can feel comfortable working at his/her own level.
In the primary grades, station work allows for a variety of activity and leads to partner and group work, as well as games. In the elementary and middle school grades, there is an increase in the number and types of games played. Sportsmanship is of utmost importance as it is carried over into all phases of our lives.
Various opportunities are available to the students to enrich their physical education experience. These include earning awards from the President’s Council on Physical Fitness, outside nutrition and fitness programs brought to the school during school time, and recently the Dance Dance Revolution video system was added as a result of Highmark Healthy High 5 School Challenge Grant. Students use this not only during Physical Education class, but also during scheduled recess times. The goal is to develop physically active and healthy individuals who feel compelled to include physical activity into their daily lives.
