Entering preschool is a big step for children and their parents! At Saint George Preschool, we recognize how important it is for children to feel good about themselves and about their earliest school experiences. To encourage this positive attitude, Saint George Preschool has a philosophy of positive reinforcement. Our teachers praise and reward not only the finished product, but the effort as well. We see each child as an individual, with unique gifts to develop and share with others. We also believe that preschool is a time to have fun and learn to socialize with other children.
The philosophy of Saint George preschool is one of positive reinforcement. It is important for the children to feel good about themselves and about the earliest of school experiences; therefore, the staff praises and rewards the child’s efforts. Readiness and motor skills are adapted as necessary tasks to meet the needs of the individual child. Children receive extra assistance when needed. Their work represents what they can create themselves, not what the staff can do for them.
Saint George preschool offers daily instruction in reading and math readiness, gross and fine motor developmental skills, music, art and religion. The children also have regular free play to allow for growth in friendships and social skills.
Each preschool group consists of approximately 20 children. A certified teacher and an adult aide facilitate their learning. In this way, responsible adults supervise children at all times for their own feelings of security and for their safety.

You and your preschool child are invited to our Preschool Orientation, held in August, one week prior to the start of the school year. At this time the parents, children, and teachers spend time together and answer questions for the new school year. You will receive a letter in August regarding the date and time.
Sometimes the first day of school is harder on Mom and Dad than it is on the children. When the big day arrives, give your child a lot of encouragement, a warm hug and kiss, and leave as promptly as possible. It your child senses you feel good about school; he/she will feel good about it too! If children sense you are uncertain or reluctant to leave, they will be uncertain too. If there are tears, try not to worry. We are accustomed to this, and will provide comfort to your child and help him/her settle in. Please be assured we will contact you if we have a concern.
