The Saint George Technology program incorporates technology across the school’s classroom curriculum.
It spans grades Kindergarten through 8th grade and includes the following:
- A Smartboard in every classroom for teacher instruction and student use
- A Distance Learning Lab for virtual fieldtrips and online presentations
- A 2nd Computer Lab equipped with 36 workstations for class/student use throughout the day
- 7th and 8th grade online foreign language program utilizing Rosetta Stone
- Office 365 accounts for school staff and students in grades 6 - 8 for creating and collaborating on Microsoft Office files
- Weekly computer classes for grades Kindergarten through 6th and daily classes for grades 7 and 8
Programs: Kid Pix Studio Deluxe, Sheila Rae the Brave, JumpStart 1st Grade
Skills: Kindergarten is introduced to the parts of a computer, using the mouse, and basic keyboarding (ex. letters, numbers, spacebar, backspace, and enter keys). They also explore multimedia and curriculum related software.
Programs: Kid Pix Studio Deluxe, JumpStart 2nd Grade
Skills: First Grade creates numerous multimedia pictures. They are introduced to opening, saving and printing files. They create and save projects such as stain glass windows and Fabrege Eggs.
Programs: Kid Pix Studio Deluxe
Skills: Second Grade create multimedia projects such as Alphabet Books. They also work on keyboarding skills (capital letters, special characters, and spacing). They utilize opening, saving, and printing files.
Programs: HyperStudio 5.0
Skills: Third Grade students work on word processing skills (keyboarding, editing text, and spacing). They are introduced to animation and design and create their own animations. They also begin exploring the Internet covering such topics as Internet safety and navigating the World Wide Web.
Programs: Microsoft Word and Internet Explorer
Skills: Students learn about word processing and basic desktop publishing. They create Space and State projects using Microsoft Word. They also learn how to use "kid friendly" search engines to find information on the Internet.
Skills: Students create multimedia projects for social studies class (Latin America project), reading class (Bookreport project) and design their own websites.
Programs: Microsoft Excel
Skills: Students use Excel to write formulas and create various charts. They design spreadsheets that keep track of their grades for different subjects. They use the Internet to learn about currency, budgets, investing and Stock Market research. The students form teams and participate in the Stock Market Game. They finish the year by creating their own stock reports using Excel to chart their stocks’ performances.
Programs: All the Right Type
Skills: Students become proficient in keyboarding (touch typing). Students should be able to accurately type at least 18 wpmwithout looking at the keys by the time they finish the class. A home version of All the Right Type is available for purchase by the students for $20.00.
Programs: Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Office 365
Skills: Eighth Grade explores desktop publishing in depth using Microsoft Word to create posters and PowerPoint to make slideshows. They also work with the digital cameras and Microsoft Office 365 for sharing files. Finally, they are introduced to database design and use Microsoft Access to build their own databases.
