SGS Nurse | St. George School - Erie, PA

Saint George School has a full-time nurse for our kindergarten - 8th grade students. We strive to maintain a healthy school environment in order for our students to reach their full potential. We rely on our parents to help us keep our school healthy. Please see below for our health guidelines:

Please do not send your child to school ill, as this will spread the germs and viruses around to the other students. Please talk to your children about washing their hands and covering their mouths when coughing or sneezing. Below please find the guidelines the school nurse uses when excluding students from school.

  • Temperature over 100 degrees: excluded from school until the temperature is normal for 24 hours without the use of medication. (Tylenol and/or Advil)

  • Diarrhea: excluded from school for 24 hours after last episode of diarrhea

  • Vomiting: excluded from school for 24 hours after last episode of vomiting

  • Pink Eye: excluded until on medication for 24 hours

  • Streptococcal Infections: excluded until on medication for 24 hours

  • Chickenpox: excluded for 6 days after last crop of vesicles erupt or all vesicles are scabbed over

Immunizations:

Beginning August 2017 the Department of Health is making a significant change to the school immunization regulations. The new regulations only allow for a five-day grace period to complete the required immunizations for the 2017-2018 school year. If a student has not received all the doses for a multiple dose vaccine series on the child's first day of school, the school is not permitted to provisionally enroll the student unless the five-day rule can be met or a medical certificate is provided.
